Heritage and archaeological route through the ruins of Itálica

Located in the metropolitan municipality of Santiponce but inseparable from the historical heritage of Seville, the Ciudad Romana de Itálica was the first Roman foundation in Hispania and the birthplace of such illustrious emperors as Trajano and Adriano. This archaeological site allows visitors to delve into the layout of a great classical city through its paved roads, original mosaics extraordinarily preserved in situ, stately homes like the Casa del Exedra, and public baths.

The highlight of the visit is its colossal Anfiteatro de Itálica, one of the largest in the Roman Empire with a capacity for twenty-five thousand spectators, also famous for having served as a natural setting for high-profile international audiovisual productions. Walking through the arena and the vomitoria carved into the stone transports the visitor directly to the golden age of Roman Baetica.

Access is free for European Union citizens, while for other visitors there is a symbolic fee of less than €2. It is recommended to visit early in the morning due to the lack of shade at the site, and to wear a hat, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes suitable for dirt and stone terrain.
