The Galería Alarcón Criado, one of the benchmarks of contemporary art in the Triana neighborhood, hosts the first solo exhibition in Seville by the renowned Portuguese creator João Marçal. The show investigates the limits of the pictorial support, questioning the traditional surface of the painting to turn the painting into a three-dimensional volume object that interacts directly with the architecture of the space.
During the visit, pieces belonging to three series of his recent production are shown: canvases with cut-out geometries (*shaped canvas*), compositions of self-adhesive vinyl from the *Neighbors* series, and paintings inspired by the textile patterns of public transport. Many works use free-standing metal structures that physically distance them from the wall.
The gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 19:00 and Saturdays from 11:00 to 14:00 (closed Sundays and holidays). Access to the gallery is free of charge. It will be open until September 19, 2026.
