Elcano
The Archivo Histórico Provincial de Sevilla pays tribute to the famous Basque sailor Juan Sebastián Elcano on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Located in the historic building of the old Alhóndiga, the archive brings together for the first time valuable files linked to the expedition that managed to complete the first circumnavigation of the globe.
Visitors have the unique opportunity to contemplate original documents with Elcano's autograph signature, dated August 1519 before setting sail. Likewise, the notarial deeds of purchase and subsequent public auction of the ship *Victoria* in Seville are exhibited, accompanied by facsimiles of maritime charts and historical maps such as the 1529 planisphere by Diego Ribero.
Admission to the archive headquarters to see the exhibition is free of charge. It can be visited during the morning hours from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 14:00. It will be open until September 30, 2026.
