Gothic heritage and confectionery at the Real Monasterio de San Clemente

The Real Monasterio de San Clemente is the oldest cloistered monastic institution in Seville, founded in 1248 by King Ferdinand III after the Castilian reconquest of the city. Throughout its more than seven centuries of history, the community of Cistercian nuns has guarded a rich artistic collection under the direct protection of the crown and the Sevillian church.

The visit to its conventual temple reveals a grandiose single-nave church that houses the baroque high altarpiece decorated with paintings by Juan Valdés Leal, together with an impressive 16th-century Mudejar wooden coffered ceiling. After admiring the historical heritage, the visitor can go to the convent turntable to purchase its renowned artisan confectionery.

Access to the temple and courtyard has a general fee of 3€, which contributes to the maintenance of the heritage. It is advisable to check the schedule of the turntable if you wish to buy traditional sweets such as 'piñonadas' or the corazón de Santa Gertrudis.
