Baroque heritage at the Oratorio de la Santa Escuela de Cristo
The Oratorio de la Santa Escuela de Cristo is a remote and intimate neoclassical and baroque temple founded at the end of the 18th century, hidden behind the quiet Carlos Alonso Chaparro alley, in the heart of the Barrio de Santa Cruz. Belonging to a centuries-old priestly fraternity, it constitutes one of the best-preserved architectural secrets of the historic center of Seville.
Upon crossing its discreet access courtyard, the visitor discovers a vaulted nave presided over by the altarpiece with the Cristo de la Providencia by Juan de Astorga and the Dolorosa by Cristóbal Ramos. Its superb historical Cavaillé-Coll organ also stands out, a French romantic instrument around which candlelight sacred music recitals are organized.
The visit to the liturgical space is with free access during Sunday opening hours from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. To attend the organ concerts that are held periodically, a donation is requested ranging from €8 to €10 for the conservation of the instrument.
