Monumental exploration of the Castle of Utrera
The Castillo de las Aguzaderas is a national monument located about 3 kilometers from the town center of El Coronil. Unlike the vast majority of Andalusian medieval fortresses, this 14th-century fortress was not built on top of a hill to watch the horizon, but in a hollow with the specific mission of protecting the spring of water that flows inside.
Visitors can walk among its imposing Keep, its quadrangular walls, and its four corner towers. Access to the site is free admission all day, which allows you to see up close one of the best-preserved defensive fortresses of the old Sevillian 'Banda Morisca'.
Getting there from Utrera takes about 18 minutes following the A-375 south. There is a parking area in the vicinity of the monument, and it is recommended to bring a camera and suitable footwear for climbing the parapets.
