Cultural visit to the Panteón de Sevillanos Ilustres

Located in the crypt under the Iglesia de la Anunciación, the Panteón de Sevillanos Ilustres is the final resting place of some of the most distinguished figures in art, literature, and thought from Seville. Conceived in the mid-20th century under the tutelage of the University of Seville, this funerary precinct gathers cenotaphs and mausoleums moved from ancient desecrated churches and convents of the city.

Upon descending into this Latin cross-plan crypt built in marble, visitors can contemplate the tombs and tributes to legendary personalities such as the poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer and his brother the painter Valeriano Bécquer, the writer Fernán Caballero, the humanist Benito Arias Montano, or the scholar Alberto Lista.

The site offers free admission on Friday afternoons through free access via the courtyard of the Facultad de Bellas Artes (Calle Laraña), in addition to guided tours organized periodically by the Cultural Heritage area of the University of Seville.
