Local flavor and regionalist architecture at the Mercado del Arenal

Built in 1947 under the direction of the renowned architect Juan Talavera y Heredia, the Mercado del Arenal is one of the most long-standing commercial spaces in the Sevillian old town. Built on the site of the former Convento del Pópulo and the historic Cárcel del Pópulo, this regionalist building stands out for its glazed arches that flood its interior galleries with natural light.

Currently, the market combines traditional stalls for fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish with a varied offer of gourmet gastronomy, organic products, and popular tapas areas. Walking through its aisles allows you to appreciate the dynamism of the Arenal neighborhood and make local purchases in an authentic environment away from purely tourist crowds.

The venue has free admission and is open from Monday to Sunday from 09:00 to 19:00 (extending hospitality service until midnight from Tuesday to Saturday). Its privileged location on calle Pastor y Landero facilitates access from the Paseo de Colón and the Plaza de Toros.
