Exploration of the Roman archaeological site of Itálica and its amphitheater
Founded in 206 BC by General Publius Cornelius Scipio, the Roman city of Itálica is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Iberian Peninsula and the birthplace of emperors Trajan and Hadrian. Located in the municipality of Santiponce, this jewel of ancient heritage allows you to travel back in time to Roman Hispania and has gained international fame for hosting the filming of the series Game of Thrones.
The self-guided tour covers its monumental Roman amphitheater, one of the largest in the Empire with a capacity for 25,000 spectators, as well as the layout of the Nova Urbs with its wide avenues and the famous mosaics of the Planisphere and Neptune. The site is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 15:00 or 18:00h depending on the time of year, remaining closed on Mondays.
The site is located just 10 minutes by car from Seville via the A-66 motorway. It is recommended to wear comfortable footwear and carry water, as the route is outdoors and has hardly any covered areas.
