Ferdinandian architecture in the Iglesia de Santa Marina

On the historic calle San Luis, a nerve center of the Macarena neighborhood, the Iglesia de Santa Marina stands out as one of the primitive parishes erected after the reconquest by Ferdinand III in the 13th century. Considered a fundamental prototype of the Sevillian Gothic-Mudéjar temple, it has survived earthquakes and fires over the centuries, preserving the austerity and monumental strength of its exposed brick.

During the visit, you can contemplate its splendid pointed brick portal decorated with medieval coats of arms, its tower of Almohad origin restructured as a bell tower, and its interior of three naves separated by pointed arches. It is currently the canonical seat of the Hermandad de la Resurrección, housing the processional images made by the imaginero sculptors Francisco Buiza and Antonio J. Dubé de Luque.

The temple has free admission and remains open from Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 13:00 and from 19:00 to 21:00, as well as on Saturday mornings from 11:00 to 13:00. It is an essential stop for those who wish to tour the Gothic-Mudéjar itinerary in the north of the historic center.
