Baroque architecture and sacred mountain art in the Iglesia de la Magdalena

The Real Parroquia de Santa María de la Magdalena is one of the cathedrals of Sevillian baroque, erected between the 17th and 18th centuries following the designs of the illustrious architect Leonardo de Figueroa. It occupies the site of the former Dominican convent of San Pablo el Real and houses profuse pictorial and baroque decoration without parallel in the old town.

Inside, the dazzling frescoes and canvases signed by Valdés Leal and Lucas Valdés stand out, as well as the majestic high altarpiece devised by Pedro Roldán. Likewise, it guards carvings of the Cristo del Calvario by Francisco de Ocampo and the Quinta Angustia, surrounded by chapels of rich tilework and golden altarpieces.

General access during worship hours and usual opening is free of charge, while the parish offers specialized guided cultural visits with a 5€ fee that require prior booking via the temple's official email.
