Visit to the Convento de Santa Clara and its Traditional Sweets

Located within the historic site of the Estepa hill, the Convento de Santa Clara de Estepa is a Mannerist and Baroque temple founded at the end of the 16th century by the Order of the Poor Clares. The building is the epicenter of the local confectionery tradition, as it was within its walls that the first documented recipes for the town's famous mantecados were created.

Visitors can admire the single nave of the church, adorned with a dazzling Baroque altarpiece by Pedro Ruiz Paniagua and period frescoes. In addition to the architectural tour for a 2€ donation, it is possible to purchase artisanal pastries made by the cloistered nuns through the traditional rotating turntable. Guided cultural tours have regular time slots at 13:00h and 17:30h.

Access to the convent is fully integrated into the pedestrian walk up the hill. If visiting to buy sweets at the traditional rotating turntable, it is advised to bring cash to speed up the transaction.
