Discovery of the hammam at the Arab Baths of Palomares

The Baños Árabes de Palomares del Río are an exceptional historical testament as they are the only preserved remains of a rural Hispano-Muslim hammam in the entire province of Seville. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries under Almohad rule, these baths served the ritual function of purification for Muslim worshippers settled in the agricultural farmsteads of the region.

The site, protected as a Site of Cultural Interest, is notable for preserving a rectangular room with a groin vault pierced by eight-pointed star-shaped skylights, originally designed to illuminate the room and evacuate steam. On the visit, one can see the vestiges of the changing room and the hot room of this valuable historical installation.

To access and see the interior structure of the baths, prior appointment is essential, directed to the tourism area of the city council. The visit is free by appointment and is perfectly complemented by exploring the nearby natural paths that border the Riopudio stream.
