Visit to the Archaeological Site of El Fontanal

The Archaeological Site of El Fontanal is the most important historical hydraulic complex in Lebrija, traditionally linked to the mythological origin of the city. Since Roman Antiquity and the Late Middle Ages, this natural spring guaranteed the water supply to the population through ingenious underground engineering works and collection galleries.

After the heritage restoration project carried out in the site, visitors can tour the restored structures, among which the 'alcubilla' with its water intake arches, the 20-meter-long watering trough, and various interpretive panels about water culture in the Bajo Guadalquivir stand out.

The space is located in the Pozo Nuevo neighborhood, next to the descent towards the rural area. It is a site with free and open access, ideal for a didactic outdoor visit in the morning or at sunset.
