Visit to the Elio Antonio de Nebrija Interpretation Center
The Plaza de España houses one of the most emblematic civic symbols of the town: the Monumento a Elio Antonio de Nebrija. Inaugurated in May 1946 coinciding with the commemorative acts for the illustrious grammarian, this sculptural work was created by the renowned Sevillian artist José Lafita, who was also the author of historic elements of regional design.
The sculptural ensemble pays permanent tribute to the father of the Castilian language in the very heart of the city, becoming a habitual meeting point for the neighbors. Being in an open public space, it allows for a close-up look at the artistic details of the monument and its integration into the urban fabric surrounding the City Hall building.
As it is a completely free and accessible 24-hour public space, it is ideal for a stop during any daily tour of the historic center. It is recommended to combine it with a visit to the nearby Interpretation Point located in the town hall courtyard.
