Visit to the Hermitage of San Antón and Nuestra Señora del Real

The Ermita de San Antón is one of the oldest religious redoubts preserved in Carmona. Its origin is closely linked to the reconquest of 1247 by King Ferdinand III the Saint, since, according to local tradition, it was built on the exact site where the royal camp of the Christian army was placed before the taking of the city.

The temple shows an austere 15th-century Mudejar architecture divided into two naves by three pointed arches on rectangular pillars. Inside, it houses the historic carvings of Saint Anthony Abbot and the Virgen de Tentudía (c. 1400), while on the exterior, its 18th-century belfry and the Bourbon coat of arms of Charles III engraved on the keystone of the courtyard stand out.

The visit to the premises is free access during its liturgical opening hours, usually Tuesday to Friday from 10:30 to 13:00. It is located in the central Plaza de San Antón nº 25.
