Excursion to Torre de Cote and Sierra de San Pablo
The Torre de Cote is a unique Gothic-Mudejar monument located in the Sierra de San Pablo, near Montellano. Built in the 14th century by the Order of Calatrava as a watchtower over the border between the Christian and Nasrid kingdoms, it is famous for its four-lobed floor plan, an architectural design that is practically unique on the Iberian Peninsula.
The enclave combines history and hiking in the heart of nature. The path to the base of the tower is free to access, running along trails surrounded by pine forests and Mediterranean scrubland that lead to excellent natural viewpoints. From there, you can contemplate the slopes of the Betic mountains and the bordering fortresses of the area.
From Utrera, it takes approximately 25 minutes to get there by driving along the A-375 road to the outskirts of Montellano. It is recommended to wear sportswear, bring water, and wear hiking shoes to make the ascent on foot comfortably.
