Baroque immersion in the Capilla de San José

Nestled right on Calle Jovellanos, the Capilla de San José is one of the most dazzling jewels of the Seville Rococo Baroque. Promoted in the mid-18th century by the city's carpenters' guild on the site of an old medieval hospital, this small temple stands out for the breathtaking decorative profusion of its walls and gilded altarpieces.

Crossing its doorway, you discover a space wrapped in gold leaf, polychrome wood carvings, and mural paintings that do not leave a single centimeter bare. Especially noteworthy is its main altarpiece dedicated to Saint Joseph, the niche with a Nativity scene attributed to La Roldana, and the delicate details of its transept with a camarín and back-altar.

The chapel is usually open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30 to 13:00 and during afternoon worship. The visit is made with free entry, although it is suggested to provide a voluntary donation to collaborate in the restoration works of the venue.
