Visit to the Convento de la Concepción and Traditional Turnstile

The Convento de la Purísima Concepción de Osuna, founded in 1566 for the community of the Franciscan Conceptionist nuns, is a jewel of convent architecture located on the central Calle Sevilla. Its sober stone facade breaks the horizontality with a slender brick belfry whose bells are among the most resonant and representative of the town.

The convent church houses in its presbytery a sublime mudéjar wooden coffered ceiling and a prominent 1717 Baroque main altarpiece signed by Francisco María de Ceiba. In the cloistered turnstile of the convent itself, the nuns prepare the famous traditional Moroccan sponge cakes, whose historic recipe is prepared artisanally continuously to always offer them fresh.

Access to the church is free admission during worship hours. Meanwhile, the traditional turnstile to purchase convent sweets is open from Monday to Saturday from 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM, being an essential stop to get typical sweets made according to centuries-old recipes.
