Roman ruins of Itálica and its great amphitheater

The Conjunto Arqueológico de Itálica represents one of the most imposing Roman sites on the Iberian Peninsula and the first city founded by Rome in Hispania (year 206 B.C.). The birthplace of emperors Trajan and Hadrian, this enclave preserved in Santiponce reflects the great political relevance of the ancient Baetica province.

During the tour of the Nova Urbs, one can admire the original mosaics of the wealthy domus, such as the Casa de los Pájaros and the Casa del Planetario, in addition to the majestic Termas Mayores. The highlight of the site is its impressive Roman amphitheater, one of the largest in Antiquity with a capacity for 25,000 spectators, world-famous for its underground galleries and for having served as a filming location.

It is recommended to arrive early in the morning to avoid the peak heat during the warmer months. The complete visit requires about 2 hours of walking, so it is essential to wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and sun protection for the outdoor sections.
