Sacred Heart of Jesus Viewpoint and Almohad Wall
On the highest hill of San Juan de Aznalfarache is the Monumento al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, a colossal 41-meter tower designed by the architect Aurelio Gómez Millán in the 1940s. The enclave is located on the site of the ancient Hispano-Muslim fortress of *Hisn Al-Faray* ('Castle of the Viewpoint'), a strategic observation point over the Guadalquivir valley.
The monumental complex houses a 75-meter diameter semicircular porticoed square, the underground crypt, and ramped gardens. Attached to the site are valuable sections of the Muralla Almohade built at the end of the 12th century by Caliph Yaqub Al-Mansur, offering one of the widest panoramic points of the Sevillian peri-urban area.
Access to the monumental square and the exterior viewpoint is free and open throughout the day. Sunset hours are ideal for contemplating the landscape and photographing the panoramas offered by the Aljarafe cornice.
