Valme Pilgrimage 2026
The Valme Pilgrimage 2026 is the most crowded and iconic festivity in Dos Hermanas, declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest. Every third Sunday in October, the city goes all out to accompany the Virgin of Valme in a pilgrimage from the Parish of Santa María Magdalena to her hermitage in the Real Sitio de Cuartos. The tradition dates back to the 13th century, when King Ferdinand III invoked the Virgin during the siege of Seville.
Throughout the day, attendees enjoy the spectacular parade of carts and galeras decorated with curled paper flowers, a unique form of folk craft. Thousands of pilgrims on foot, on horseback, and in procession accompany the image along a festive route filled with singing, dancing, and traditional fellowship. Attendance is free and open to the general public.
The departure procession begins on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 06:00 with the Pilgrims' Mass. It is recommended to arrive early in the city center to see the carts or to position yourself along the route to witness the procession before it reaches the hermitage.
