Visit to the Hospital de la Misericordia y de la Caridad

Founded in 1510 under the patronage of Beatriz Pacheco, Duchess of Arcos, the Hospital de la Misericordia y de la Caridad is one of the most emblematic historic social welfare institutions in the town. It was born with the mission of providing medical care and free shelter to the sick and destitute of the municipality and its surroundings.

The building stands out in the urban landscape for its spectacular exposed brick Baroque facade built in the 17th century. Inside its chapel, a valuable heritage collection is preserved, which includes the main altarpiece, the sober image of the Cristo de la Misericordia (16th century), and a famous collection of twelve 17th-century Flemish coppers that illustrate the articles of the Creed.

The visit to the interior of the premises and its chapel is free admission during the usual morning opening hours. It is located on the historic Calle Santa María de Gracia, very close to the monumental center.
