Visit to the Hermitage of the Virgen de Gracia and its Sacred Cave

Located on the hillside beneath the steep walls of the Alcázar de Arriba, the Ermita de la Virgen de Gracia is the devotional heart of Carmona's patron saint. Its history begins at the end of the 13th century, when according to local tradition, a shepherd discovered the carved image of the Virgin inside a natural cave where it remained hidden for centuries.

The sanctuary houses in its lower area the primitive cave of the apparition integrated into the nave, together with the building of the old Hieronymite monastery built in the 16th century under the personal patronage of Isabella the Catholic. The visitor can tour the chapel, admire the altarpiece where the image received worship, and contemplate the natural environment that surrounds the cave.

Admission to the hermitage and the cave site is free of charge during the days the brotherhood is open and during weekly worship services. You reach it by taking the old N-IV road descending from the Parador.
